ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF YOUTH & DISCIPLESHIP
OVERVIEW
Mulberry Baptist Church is a contemporary, largely younger congregation, Southern Baptist church with a five-member staff (Lead Pastor, Associate Pastor (open), Children’s Director, Preschool Director, and Ministry Assistant). We are looking for a full-time Associate Pastor to lead our Youth and Discipleship ministry. We believe the best fit for this ministry would be one who would consider themselves fun, relational, outreach-oriented, theologically conservative, a discipler, loves teaching, meeting, and working with students (middle and high school), and loves developing and overseeing discipleship ministries for all ages.
For this position, you would be responsible for the student ministry (middle and high school) including Sunday morning and Wednesday night Bible study, discipleship, regular social events throughout the month, summer retreat/camp, etc.. If so desired, our parents are used to helping with the behind-the-scenes event and retreat planning so you can spend more up front time with the students. For this position, you must enjoy discipling, hanging out, and talking to students and their friends and be able to lead them and be a part of relational evangelism. In short, if you enjoy sitting behind a desk all day, this is not for you; however, if you love spending time with and impacting students’ lives, send us your resume!
In regards to the discipleship portion of the position, you would oversee and develop the discipleship ministries for youth and adults. We currently have Sunday morning Bible studies, Life Groups (Sunday evening small groups that meet once a month), D-Groups (discipleship groups consisting of 4 to 6 individuals who meet weekly to discuss that week’s reading), Men’s and Women’s groups that meet monthly, etc. For the most part, these ministries need a point person to help with needed training, resources, organization, scheduling, etc.
OUR AREA
Houma and Terrebonne Parish (a parish is what other states refer to as a county) offer an experience blended with rich history, breathtaking landscape, and a flourishing culture that contributes to the distinctive fabric of Louisiana. From world-class fishing, birding, and hunting, to swamp tours, museums, festivals, Antebellum homes and numerous plantations, world loved Cajun culture, excellent department store shopping, family-oriented community, two renowned hospitals, and excellent schools (Nicholls State University is only a 20-minute drive along with numerous colleges within 60 miles).
Houma promises every resident will experience the flavor, spirit and wild nature that inhabit Louisiana’s wetlands. The wetlands and its denizens are immeasurable. It is a distinctive way of life, home to a blend of cultures and traditions, where diversity is a strength. It is a place where the land, its people, and its culture connect. These are just a few of the reasons why Houma was voted “The 2nd Happiest Place to Live in the USA” by a national study* done in 2014.
The residents making up Houma and its surrounding are around 100,000. It is just under an hour to New Orleans, which is one of the more unique cities in the USA, having many points of interest: jazz festivals, zoo, food, architecture, swamp tours, French Quarter, French Market, museums, aquarium, international airport (with inexpensive flights), and so much more. The draw of authentic Cajun culture, diverse environment and wildlife, historical sites, excellent food and proximity to New Orleans and Lafayette make Houma a central location for any resident who wishes to experience the culture of South Louisiana.
